Juodkrante’s Sound Catcher
A Sound catcher in Judokrante's old growth forest —renovated with funds from visitor tickets—is waiting for you!
Have you heard of Juodkrantė’s Sound Catcher before?
It is a wooden structure, three meters high and long and it is designed to amplify the sounds of the forest. When you approach the narrow end or step inside it, you can listen to the “captured” sounds and enjoy the surrounding environment.
Have you ever visited or been inside?
The Sound Catcher is in the northern part of Juodkrantė, deep within the old growth forest. You can reach it by walking along the educational dendrological trail, formerly known as the Bloksberg Promenade.
Signs and arrows along the trail will help you find the Sound Catcher
Did you know that it has been in the old growth forest for ten years now?
The Curonian Spit National Park Administration installed the Sound Catcher in 2016.
It’s a wooden “device” that blends perfectly with its surroundings—visually at first, and over time, physically as well, gradually weathering away.
This year, for the convenience of visitors, the Administration renovated the Sound Catcher using the National Park Visitor Ticket funds. The Visitor Ticket is a voluntary contribution to the park; the funds collected are used to preserve natural values and the landscape, as well as to improve infrastructure.
You can purchase it at the Curonian Spit National Park Visitor Center in Juodkrantė or by sending a message to 1860 with the text “KNNP.”
Thank you for supporting Lithuania’s protected areas!
