Educational Activities
The Curonian Spit National Park Directorate organizes non-formal education activities designed for various age groups, including school students, university students, organizations, and different types of groups or teams. These activities include educational programs, excursions, and hikes.
Visiting groups wishing to explore the unique Curonian Spit and booking education activities may also reserve temporary accommodation at the Nature Schools.

“Shifting Horizons: The Magic of the Curonian Spit Dunes” Through an imaginative journey in time, we will discover the origins of the sand dunes and witness the birth of the Curonian Spit. Participants will learn about sand, its characteristics, and how it works together with the forces of wind and water to form the highest dunes in Northern Europe. We will travel back to the 16th–19th centuries, when wandering sandstorms buried entire villages, and learn how human efforts eventually helped preserve the unique landscape of the Curonian Spit. Duration: 1–1.5 hours |

“From the Forest Floor to the Pine Treetops” While walking along forest trails in the Curonian Spit, we will discover the mysterious world of forest plants, their structure, and their importance to both nature and humans. Participants will also learn about the history of forest decline and replanting in the Curonian Spit. During the program, we will learn to identify the surrounding vegetation and explore how it can be used in our daily lives. Duration: 1–1.5 hours |

“Birds of the Curonian Spit” The Curonian Spit is a true natural gem where birds inhabit forests, coastal areas, and dunes. During this program, you will learn about the birds of the Curonian Spit, their way of life, and why this region is so important for them. Duration: 1–1.5 hours |

“Hidden Animal Trails” Do you know which animals live in the Curonian Spit? Are they more likely to be found near the Baltic Sea or in pine forests by the lagoon? During this program, we will uncover the hidden world of forest animals, learn about their habits, discover where and why they travel, and interpret the stories told by their tracks. Become real wildlife explorers and trackers! Duration: 1–1.5 hours |

“Nature’s Labyrinths” This is an experiential orientation program. While exploring the trails of the Curonian Spit, we will learn the basics of navigation in nature. Participants will search for hidden clues and learn how to avoid getting lost by using natural landmarks, celestial bodies, and human-made structures. The program helps participants better understand both themselves and the environment around them. Duration: 1–1.5 hours |

The service can also be provided to 1–2 participants, provided they agree to pay the minimum group rate for 10 people (€50). * The minimum price applies to groups of 10–30 people. “Remembering Old Nida” Travel from the town of Nida into the dunes while discovering the lives of the early inhabitants of the Curonian Spit. We will learn about the tragic history of sand-buried settlements and the efforts to preserve this remarkable landscape. Surrounded by spectacular views, we will also explore protected and invasive species in the area. This journey takes us across the stunning Parnidis Dune landscape to the border of the Grobštas Nature Reserve. Duration: 2–2.5 hours |

“Secrets of the Dunes: Along the Trails of Forgotten Villages” Together we will explore the fragile landscape of the Nagliai Nature Reserve, its important habitats, and its diverse plant and animal life. Walking along the educational trail, we will recall the stories of villages that were buried under drifting sand. Duration: 2–2.5 hours |

“Along the Paths of the Forest Cathedral” A special walk through the ancient forest of Juodkrantė, along hidden paths winding between parabolic dunes and peaceful promenades. These trails are filled with legends and the spirit of fairytale creatures hidden in the forest. Duration: 2–2.5 hours | ||
“The Horns of the Spit” The sandy shores of the Curonian Lagoon are decorated with natural formations known as “horns.” During this hike we will walk along sandy trails surrounded by dune sedges and other sand-loving plants. We will observe birds feeding in the reed beds and may even spot the rare Common Shelduck, which nests in the Curonian Lagoon. You will also learn about the geological processes that shaped the Curonian Spit and continue shaping it today. Duration: 2–3 hours | ||
“Along the Trails of Smiltynė” Following trails scented with sand and pine forests, we will walk to the “Campsite by the Well” and back. Along the way we will discover villas dating back to the 19th-century golden age of Smiltyne. Duration: 2 hours | ||
“Toward the Kingdom of Cormorants and Grey Herons” Walking through the mysterious old forest and breathing the fresh pine-scented air, we will reach an impressive colony of cormorants and grey herons. Here we will reveal myths and facts about the Great Cormorant and observe birdlife in their natural kingdom using binoculars. Duration: 1.5–2 hours |
